Martin “Mood” Walat, 66, Boswell, died Sept. 2, 2020. Born Aug. 26, 1954 in Somerset, son of the late Casimir “Chizzie” and Florence (Fracos) Walat. Survived by his wife the former Karen Long; sons: Brett married to the former Nina Cortese, and Cody; grandchildren: Luke, Noel, and Jenna; sisters: Anita Krupa, and Jane Walat, special cousin Dave “Fats” Walat; nieces and nephew, Missy, Davy, Shannon and numerous beloved relatives, friends, and patrons. He was a 1972 graduate of North Star High School and co-owner and operator of Walat’s Bar. Formerly employed by Somerset MHMR Sheltered Workshop. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset, Stoystown Son’s of the American Legion, and the 1974 Swank’s Hardware AAABA Championship Team. Marty assisted with starting the AYSO program in Stoystown, coached Special Olympics for many years, and was a former track coach and assistant girls soccer coach at North Star High School. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling but mostly spending time with family and friends. No viewing or service at his request. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be planned in the future. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown.
