Mary Louise (Custer) Landis

Mary Louise Landis, 98, Shanksville, died June 5, 2024 at Arbutus Park Manor, Johnstown.  Born December 22, 1925 in Somerset Township, youngest child of Edmund F. and Carrie E. (Metzgar) Custer.  Preceded in death by parents, her husband of 75 years, Donald R. “Red” Landis, siblings Alverta Krone, Edna Morrow, William, Victoria Pile Anderson Custer, Anna Darr, Emily Koontz, and Lloyd.  Survived by daughters:  Kathie, married to Terry Shaffer, and Donna, married to Karl Glessner, all of Shanksville; grandchildren:  Adam (Kate) Shaffer, Rebecca (Shawn) Kuzar, Benjamin (Kara) Shaffer, Carrie (Will) Young, and Jacob (Stephanie) Glessner, and great-grandchildren:  Aiden, Elizabeth, and Ian Shaffer, Alex and Tyler Kuzar, Neoma Young, and Rosalie and Zinnia Glessner, and many nieces and nephews. She was a 1943 graduate of Somerset Township High School.  She was employed at the IXL Creamery, the Somerset VFW, and was a civilian employee of the US Army during World War II.  In later years she worked at the National Bank of Western Pennsylvania, Shanksville Branch, and owned and worked at Shanksville Builders Supply with her husband, Don.  She was a 76-year member of the Shanksville Methodist Church.  She was a craft demonstrator with her husband at Mountain Craft Days for more than 25 years.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and knitting. She undertook many creative projects and always supported her family in all of their endeavors. Family will receive friends from 12 noon until a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday at Shanksville Methodist Church.
