Mildred Sturtz Obituary

Mildred Elmeda Sturtz, 100, of Lambertsville, a child of God, passed peacefully at home from this life to be with the Lord, January 22, 2024. This centenarian was born September 8, 1923, on her grandparents William and Della Miller’s farm located in Jefferson Township, near Bakersville, Somerset County. Preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Edna (Miller) Lape, husband Wilbert Sturtz (2000 married 55 years) and a brother Lester Lape. Survived by these two sons, Charles married to Connie (Eash) Sturtz and Richard Sturtz, both of Lambertsville. She was a 1943 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School. Life long active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lambertsville, until merging with Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, in 1969 where she continued her membership until it closed in 2022. She was also active with the Mostoller Methodist Church in Kimmelton. All her Christian endeavors included teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Choir, Altar Guild and all of the church ladies organizations, funeral meals, taking care of the sick and weekly visits to nursing homes. Mildred was the last President of the American War Mothers Somerset Chapter 20. Mildred was known for her housekeeping, cooking and baking abilities and shared her delicious food with shut-ins and friends. She enjoyed riding bicycle, walking trails with friends and driving her car until having a stroke at the age of 93. Needing some care, Mildred always showed appreciation in her quiet and gentle manner with a smile and a thank you. Many people have been touched and blessed by her life. We hold Mom lovingly in our hearts. No viewing or service. Interment will be in the Lambertsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Lambertsville Cemetery, c/o Darlene Miller, 299 Cemetery Rd., Stoystown, PA. 15563. Arrangements entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown.
