Nancy Louise (Cook) Mitchell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Louise Mitchell (Cook), 84. She was known to all as Mamaw. Nancy passed away peacefully at her home in Manassas Virginia, surrounded by her loved ones on July 7, 2025. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, whose kindness and warmth touched the lives of those who knew her. Nancy was born in Glencoe Pennsylvania on February 27, 1941. She is survived by her beloved husband, William (Bill) T Mitchell, her cherished son, Barry Rutherford, her devoted daughter, Susan Rizzo and step daughters Christine McCloy and Jennifer Groves. Nancy’s legacy lives on through her 11 adored grandchildren and her 4 precious great grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Linda Jane Rutherford, her parents Walter and Elizabeth Cook, her sisters, Jane Cook, Dorothy Zirkle, Anna Stratton, brother Don Cook. She is survived by her sister Lois Weimer and brothers, Robert Cook, Jim Cook and Richard Cook. Nancy’s life was one of deep love for her family, unwavering strength and a gentle spirit that made everyone feel at home in her presence. Nancy will be laid to rest in Glencoe Pennsylvania, a place close to her heart.
