Nevin Curtis Deist, 85, Berlin, died June 14, 2025 at UPMC Somerset. Born February 5, 1940 in Stoystown, son of Donald B. and Violet (Shaffer) Deist. Preceded in death by parents and two brothers. Survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Diane Berkebile; daughter Shelli (Steven) Keller; grandchildren: Chase and Kelsi Miller; one brother; five sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew Jack (Annetta “Dolly”) Berkebile. He was a 1959 graduate of Jenner Boswell Joint High School and served in the US Army in Germany during the Cold War. Nevin was an over the road truck driver for 33 years. After retiring from that, he then worked for Pile’s Concrete Products for 20 years and then worked as a security guard for Capital Asset Protection. Member of New Baltimore Sportsman’s Club and Mountain Field and Stream Club. He was an avid hunter and Steelers fan. Nevin loved his grandchildren Kelsi and Chase whom he and Diane raised., He was an expert mechanic and enjoyed maintaining his tractors, riding mowers and property.
