Raymond Leroy Oakes, 80, Fairhope, died Sept. 3, 2020 at Somerset In Touch Hospice House. Born June 1, 1940 in Champion, son of John and Blanche (Henry) Oakes. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Lila Drake, brother Walter, and sisters Margaret and Helen. Survived by children: Tammie (Mark) Rudicil, Pamela (Charles) Morgan, Roxanne (Lee Roy) Brant, Raymond Dean (Brenda) Oakes, Rodney Oakes, Sheila Oakes, Eugene (Melissa) Oakes, and Kimberly Raley; 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; brothers John (Pearl), Thomas, and Larry (Gail) Oakes; sisters Mildred (Randy) Lenio and Carol (Marc) Kemp; and sister-in-law Bonnie Oakes. He was a retired steelworker. Member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Manns Choice and the NRA. He sang and played guitar with Windy Mountain and The Glory Guys. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
