Renate Elizabeth Berkebile

Renate Elizabeth Berkebile, 80, Friedens, died Nov. 12, 2020 at home. Born March 21, 1940 in Germany, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Grünwald) Strobach. Preceded in death by parents, sister Heidi, brother Wilfred, and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Berkebile. She met her husband Bruce who was in the Army in 1959. They married July 5, 1960 and Renate moved to Badhersfeld, Germany. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. While in Badhersfeld they had 2 children Bruce Jr. and wife Sherry and Renate Ann and husband Tom. They then flew back to the United States, where they arrived in New Jersey and Bruce continued to serve in the U.S. Army. Their final home was in Friedens, where Bruce continues to reside today. Here they had two more children Tina and husband Shane and Chad and wife Kristina. Renate was a very wonderful wife and mother. She loved to crochet and would always get 1st place at the Meyersdale Fair. She was so very proud of her accomplishments. She loved taking care of everyone, which included her 4 children, 16 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She loved to babysit and made it a full time career, watching and caring for everyone like they were her own. She loved everyone and had no enemies. She was well loved by everyone she met. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Somerset. A private graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown. Rev. Angelo Patti celebrant.
