Rev. Marlin Miller Obituary

Rev. Marlin Ashley Miller, 92, of Shanksville, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on October 22, 2025, at Somerset Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 28, 1933, in Fort Hill, son of Raymond Miller and Hazel Rae (Matthews) Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Wilma I. Miller; and half-brother, Nevin Miller. Marlin is survived by his children: Karen Miller, David (Betty Lou) Miller, Mark (Michelle) Miller, Amy (Sotiris) Aggelou, and Anita (Ryan) Berich; grandchildren: Austin Miller, Anastasia and Iliana Aggelou, Hannah Miller, and Tyler Berich; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marlin attended a one-room schoolhouse for grades 1–8 and graduated from Rockwood High School in 1952. At the young age of 16, he felt a clear call to the ministry. He attended Greensburg Bible Institute for two years before earning his bachelor’s degree from Clarion University, where he was also a member of the baseball team. Marlin went on to graduate from United Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity, preparing for a lifetime of faithful service to the Lord. During his 60 years of ministry, Marlin faithfully served many congregations. From 1955 to 1968, he pastored 11 Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) churches, often ministering to four churches within one charge. From 1968 until his retirement in 2015, he continued his service in seven United Methodist churches, including the Shanksville and Central City Charge, as well as the Fellsburg Church and Meyersdale Charge. Together with his wife, Wilma, he also served as a tour host for several meaningful trips to the Holy Land, Egypt, and Greece, enriching the faith of many who traveled with them. Marlin’s life was a living testimony of God’s love, grace, and service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend; loved deeply by all who knew him. Family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. A viewing will also be held from 10 a.m. until the celebration of Marlin’s life and faith at 11 a.m. on Monday at Shanksville Methodist Church. Pastor Robert Katzenstein officiating. Interment will follow at Somerset County Memorial Park. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers for their compassionate care, and to all who have offered prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Allegheny, 100 Camp Allegheny Drive, Stoystown, PA 15563. Arrangements entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
