Richard “Dick” M. Cunningham, 83, Berlin, unexpectedly left this Earth to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Good Friday, April 2, 2021. Born October 10, 1937 in Fairchance, son of William and Myrtle (Wilson) Cunningham. Preceded in death by his parents and his only son Eric Richard Cunningham who passed away on Sept. 6, 2002. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, the former Shirley Long; daughter Kathy S. Leer, Sidman; and 2 grandchildren who he loved dearly and was very proud of for their military service, 2nd Class Petty Officer Carl Alexander Leer, recently married to the former Christine Yakicic, stationed at Joint Base Andrews in Washington, DC and Sergeant Bethany Grace Leer, Camp Pendleton, CA; brothers: William C. (Ellen) Cunningham, Sarasota, FL, Alvin D. (Barbara) Cunningham, Cresaptown, MD; sister Carolyn F. McKinney, Meyersdale; brother- and sister-in-law John and Eloise Long, Berlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was a 1955 graduate of Meyersdale Area High School and served in the PA Army National Guard following graduation. He worked in the family business of Cunningham Meat Packing for many years and eventually became the owner. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Penguin and Steeler fan. Dick officiated PIAA basketball for many years. He greatly appreciated hunting and was an enthusiastic gardener. He loved playing games with family and friends. But his greatest joy and interest in life was studying the Word of God and teaching it. He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God, Boynton. Per Dick’s request, there will be no viewing, flowers, or funeral. There will be a public visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Masks and social distancing required. A private committal service will be held at Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rev. Paul Kirschbaum officiating.
