Robert Sanner Obituary

Robert Truman Sanner, 91, of Berlin passed away peacefully at the In Touch Hospice House on March 22, 2020. Bob was born on November 20, 1928 and was married for 72 years to the love of his life, Blanche (Snyder). He was the father of five children:  Judith (Terry) Pletcher, Rockwood; Roberta (David) Wyant, Berlin; Larry (Kate) Sanner, Rockwood; Pamela (Jeff) Moore, Berlin; and Douglas (Roxanne) Sanner, Rockwood. He was loved by his 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren (plus one due in May). He was the son of Charles and Edna (Else) Sanner and was preceded in death by his brothers Edmond and Richard and his sister Catherine. Bob was an entrepreneur from the time he was 16, working in the lumber business and then eventually the coal business with his brothers.  He also was a former partner at Meyersdale Automotive Center. He was a life-long member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Rockwood and a member of the Meyersdale BPOE Elks. Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting, dancing and traveling (he visited 45 states) and loved spending time at his homes in Pennsylvania and in Naples, FL. where he and Blanche spent their winters from 1982 to 2017.  They thoroughly enjoyed their time together golfing, biking, walking, fishing and being part of the “A Team” at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. More importantly, he loved hosting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Florida all winter long.  He loved going out for breakfast where his favorite servers knew he loved Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream.  He enjoyed tinkering in his yard, making orange juice from the oranges that grew on his trees, walks at the beach, “happy hour” naps and watching all his “kids” play in the pool, frequently reminding them not to splash the water out and not be too noisy!  He always encouraged the girls to get outside and put on their “working clothes” so they could soak up the warm sun and enjoyed checking out the new cars on the dealer lots with the guys.  He was always a patient man, taking his girls on never ending shopping trips or to the casino to play the slots.  Bob always had a tight hug, warm handshake, kind word and wide smile for everyone who knew him.  A private service for immediate family only will be held. Pastor Doug Burns officiating. Interment Rockwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
