William Leroy Glessner

William L. Glessner, 85, of Stonycreek Township, died January 10, 2022 inside the same home where he was born on February 24, 1936. Bill was beloved for his gift of conversation, and he lives on within the stories his friends and family learned so well over the years. He will also be greatly missed as a volunteer and contributing member of the community he loved and where he chose to live his entire life. Bill graduated from Shanksville Stonycreek High School in 1954 and, in 1962, he married the woman who never left his side.  He received the Future Farmer of America Award and ran a dairy farm until his retirement. He received the Dairy of Distinction Award and Century Farm Award, and he was proud of other recognitions that he received throughout his life as an insurance board member, Somerset REC board member, seed salesmen, school board president, church elder, and a Masonic temple board member. He was a member of Somerset Lodge #358 F&AM, the Valley of Pittsburgh, and the Jaffa Temple for over sixty years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Ruth (Sayler) Glessner; an infant sister; and his son, Leroy Glessner. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley (Flamm) Glessner; his daughter Christine (Sam) Hemminger; grandchildren Faith and Noah Hemminger; and daughter-in-law Tammy (Robert) Sheeler and their children Brooke and Will. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
