Bernard Charles "Bernie" Sperry, 87, Berlin, died Oct. 18, 2016 at home. Born Nov. 18, 1928 in Meyersdale, son of Norman and Ruth (Mankamyer) Forespring and Charles Sperry. Preceded in death by parents, wife the former Patricia Ann Short, special friend Jeannine Cummins, and special aunt Edna Pearl Mankamyer. Survived by children: Judith Ann Bird, Berlin; Alice Eileen Hummel, Johnstown; and Brian Daniel Sperry, Berlin; grandchildren: Joslyn Bird, Patricia Durrence, Kelly (Jon) Guindon, Andrea (Chris) Robbins, Wesley (Heidi) Coleman, Ryan (Amanda) Coleman, Ian (Amanda) Hummel, and Travis (Stephanie) Hummel; great grandchildren: Faith and Wyatt Dermer, Jaden Durrence, Adrianna, Brady, and Carolina Guindon, Stella and Ollie Robbins, Jared, Jasmine, Luke, and Landon Coleman, Gavin Coleman, Caleb and Samuel Spiker, and Ty Hummel; half sisters Mary Jane Robertson and Joni Tressler; and many close family and friends. “Graduate of Glade City University”. He was a Korean War Army veteran. He worked for Ponfeigh Coal Co. until the Merrills helped him start Sperry Drilling Service in 1968. He was a born again Christian. Member of International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Lifetime member of the N.R.A., Berlin V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a strong supporter of Donald Trump and loved telling jokes, hunting, fishing, auctions, and spending time with family and friends. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 12 Noon Friday at Berlin Brethren Church. Pastor Tom Sprowls officiating.
