Ethel R. (Maust) Brant

Ethel R. Brant, 94, Garrett, died August 15, 2017 at home.  Born October 7, 1922, daughter of Samuel E. and Orpha May (Knepper) Maust. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Linda Mae Thompson; sisters Mary Brant, Lorene Ling, Leona Weigle, and Ruth Maust; and brothers, Judd and Kenneth Maust. Survived by her husband of 74 years, James R. Brant; children, James S. Brant, married to the former Sherry Burkholder, Garrett; Wayne R. Brant, married to the former Cynthia Tissue, Meyersdale; and Lee Roy Brant, married to the former Roxanne Oakes, Meyersdale; son-in-law Richard Thompson, Muncie IN; grandchildren, Renee Klink, Denise Royal, Julie Vega, Jill, Jacilynn, Adam, Emily, and Lea Brant, Ryan Oakes, and Nichole Durst.  Ethel is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She was a graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School.  Ethel raised her family on a dairy farm.  She was a dedicated and hardworking mother and grandmother.  She was always there for every grandchild’s request for a project, whether it be a hand-sewn Halloween costume, a paper mache grouse, or gymnastics lesson.  She was a wonderful cook, baker, quilter and partner to her husband, James, accompanying him fishing, horse shoe pitching and bowling. Ethel was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Meyersdale.  Ethel’s sweet smile and gentleness will be missed by all who knew her. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fritz Cemetery, Berlin.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Ethel’s memory to Zion Lutheran Church, 355 Center Street, Meyersdale, PA 15552.
